In the past 5-years Bus Stop Bible Studies has posted literally thousands of ‘studies’ on public transit in Canada. This has resulted in more than one-billion individual impressions yet very little response from mainstream media. Nearly all of the routine responses we receive are positive. Sometimes the testimonies we receive are life changing and encourage us and our supporters to keep doing what we do.

The text for the particular ‘study’ recently brought to light in the media has been displayed on the TTC almost continuously for 5-years. It was only when someone recently took a photo of it and Tweeted with a condescending response that it that it has been called into question; predominantly on atheist blogs. The consequence of living in a world of instant media. This is the very first time we have received a negative comment of a specific ‘study’. When criticism has been received it has always been concerning the principal of religious advertising in public. Over the years of this ministry we have come to learn that people’s paradigms dramatically impact their response to any message we might display. Our paradigm is faith based.

With reference to the study in question, some have made the excellent point that children need to be directed to resources where they can find practical help. We agree. To this end there are other ads on public transit which promote the Kid's Help Phone, an organization that is equipped to direct children to practical resources if they feel the need. Due to copyright restrictions, etc. we cannot simply display this information on our ‘studies’. The good news is that children who take public transit can avail themselves of both practical and spiritual help.

The mission of Bus Stop Bible Studies is based upon Isaiah 51:1-3, “The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners [the spiritually blind], to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”

These 'studies', when produced for posting inside buses, measure 35" wide x 11" high, or 70" x 21" for displaying on the backs of buses. They are individually printed on a vinyl laminate using a commercial, high-resolution inkjet printer for maximum image quality.

Can you imagine?

Can you imagine getting on a bus and being surrounded by nothing other than passages from the Word of God? It wasn’t so long ago that people thought it impossible for the Bible to be displayed anywhere in public - least of all on buses and subway cars. God orchestrated a Supreme Court ruling to enshrine our right to do so.

The Bible can’t be read in secular schools or universities – even though it’s an historical document. You can’t display the Ten Commandments in a courtroom – even though they are the foundation of Canadian law. But people can read the Bible on public transit and Bus Stop Bible Studies provides the means!

Starting with the TTC in March 2012, ‘domination campaigns’ are being run on five city buses. A domination campaign means the ministry purchases all the advertising space inside a sponsored vehicle (a typical bus has 16-18 advertising panels). We are delighted that Willowdale Pentecostal Church is sponsoring one of the buses.

From only $2,495 churches, ministries or individuals can sponsor a bus domination for approximately 6-months (including panel production and HST). Contact us for more information. Individuals receive a charitable receipt for the full amount.
